New Toyota Fortuner Vs Old – 5 Biggest Changes Explained

The Toyota Fortuner is the king of SUVs in India. Its popularity remains astronomical despite being quite a dated product. With the next-gen model finally on the way, what big changes can we expect?

Toyota Fortuner Old Vs New – Looks

From the test mules, the Fortuner will now sport a sharper design language. Its design is expected to closely match that of the new Hilux. The rugged and butch stance of the outgoing Fortuner would remain, but the slim headlights, new grille and a revised rear end would keep things fresh. The looks and road presence have been key reasons for the Fortuner’s success, and Toyota would refrain from spoiling the recipe.

Interior

This is where things will get interesting. The old and rather prehistoric interiors would be replaced by Toyota’s new cockpit layout. This new layout is expected to sport a more modern look while maintaining the ergonomics that made the Fortuner such an easy-to-live-with vehicle.

Practicality and interior space will be uncompromised as the dimensions are expected to stay the same. However, the material quality is expected to improve inside to enhance the cabin experience.

Toyota Fortuner Old Vs New – Features

Amongst the Majestor, Kodiaq, Tayron R-Line, Meridian and even the Gloster, the Fortuner has the shortest feature list. It misses out on features like panoramic sunroof, ADAS and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Not to mention, some key features, like the JBL sound system, are only available on the Diesel 4×4 variants. Toyota could add the much-needed features and also make lower variants more desirable with the update. It is also expected to get a newer 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 9-inch digital driver’s display.

Fortunately, no changes are expected here. The fabled 2.8-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol engine will continue to be offered. Toyota could make the diesel-hybrid more accessible by offering it on lower variants. As for the transmission options, the 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT will carry over to the new model. Expectedly, the 4WD will also be offered.

Toyota Fortuner Old Vs New – Pricing

Currently, the Fortuner costs between Rs 41.63 lakh and Rs 62.47 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The revisions will be quite extensive, which could increase the price by around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. This demand for the Fortuner will only increase with the updates. The price increase would have little to no effect on this SUV’s popularity.
