Toyota Rival: Mahindra has filed a patent for its concept model, the Vision SXT, and it promises to be one of Mahindra’s most distinctive models ever. Here is what you should know about it.
Mahindra Vision SXT Patented!
As per the images, the Vision SXT is a pickup truck. Currently, the pickup market is limited, with the Toyota Hilux as the most prominent name. The Vision SXT is expected to go against the iconic Japanese pickup truck. Furthermore, we can see that it closely resembles the Vision S. The boxy, rugged stance is the common factor between the 2.
However, unlike traditional pickup trucks with a massive flatbed, the Vision SXT sports a much shorter one. It is unusual for pickup trucks to have such a small flatbed, and no big names come to mind except for the Lamborghini LM002. Mahindra will target an entirely new segment with the Vision SXT, and it could be one of the few pickup trucks shorter than 5 metres. The Vision SXT will also be based on the NU_IQ platform, which is compatible with vehicles between 3.9m and 4.3m in length.
Mahindra Vision SXT – What Else?
The Vision SXT will be more of a lifestyle pickup truck, and Mahindra will launch the Global Pik-up to cater to the commercial crowd. We expect the Vision SXT to be offered with similiar features to the Vision S, such as a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, ventilated front seats, Level-2 ADAS, etc. As for the powertrain, it could get a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine is expected to be offered with a hybrid powertrain. If the demand for the combustion-propelled models is decent, Mahindra could also introduce its electrified version.
The patent suggests a launch is imminent. The Vision SXT could make its India debut by mid- to late-2027. When this concept model was first revealed, many people expected it to remain a concept. However, Mahindra seems pretty serious about it. Once Vision SXT enters production, it could be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It would undercut the Hilux by a significant margin, and it would be interesting to see whether such a unique concept can succeed in India.
